Jim, you probably know without looking anything up, but Ficel Hindi, was he a brother of Shawkeet and, thus, uncle of Dion Hindi? And what about Baheej Hindi - another brother of Ficel and Shawkeet? Any birth dates?

About Kinerk, I have him qualifying in fast time at the San Jose Fairgrounds on the last of April, 1972 - so, that must be the race where he was injured. Any details?

I always understood Ficel to be Shawkeet's brother, but in the linked obituary, Shawkeet isn't listed as a survivor, while Baheej is

Here are a couple of nice photos of Ficel (the second with Shawkeet):

I'll have to dig out my racing papers and check on Kinerk in April 1972. While I was too young to really grasp much about driving styles, I do recall seeing Kinerk in action with the SDRA at Cajon Speedway in a very nice looking car.

Thanks, Jim. I felt sure I'd read about the "Hindi brothers from Albuquerque", but maybe it was about Ficel and Baheej - but then, I don't have a single race in which both appeared together! On the other hand, every race in which I have an entry for Ficel, had Shawkeet in it as well, without exception. Hm. Surely Shawkeet must've been related, one way or another.

Hope that this is not out of place.

It is just over 6 years since the great Peter Brock was killed in a Targa event in Western Australia.

Brocky was a 9 times winner of the Bathurst 1000 km race held in October each year. He was a true legend of Australian Motor racing

RIP Peter Brock

On my website www.terrywalkersplace.com I have a"Vale" section which has in alphabetical order a list of Western Australian racing drivers and personalities who have died--date of death, age, and a comment or two. It is under the "Articles" menu item.

Pictures of many of them can be found in the Gallery "Personalities", and some in "reunions"

@Terry:
Since you mention your "Vale" section, I think you have the wrong Mal Chapman there.
The right one's middle name was Thomas (instead of Cyril). He was born on 7 November 1926 and died on 15 November (instead of 28 September) 2011 at the age of 85 (instead of 78).

Hello from France,

André SIMON : 5 january 1920 in Paris / 11 july 2012 in Evian

RIP

Last week, I put on display a model of the 1962 Tour de France winning Ferrari 250GT SWB, driven by André Simon over 50 years ago !

Haine Kane's post back in July was the only mention of Simon's passing that I noticed. He had a long and enviable career. Another driver that I would have liked to have met !

Another of the roadster drivers leaves the scene , Godspeed Eddie Russo .

Mr Jenkins ,

Over at "where are they now" board it says Eddie Russo was born in 1925. Yet i've seen an obit that have him born in 1923. Which is correct?

Dan Clark, died October 28 in Riverside, California, he was 74. Clark raced NASCAR Late Model Sportsman in Southern California in the 60's and 70's, running primarily at Orange Show Speedway in San Bernardino. Known for driving Ford products, Clark also joined his fellow local competitors in LMS races at Riverside International Raceway and Ontario Motor Speedway. He did quite well at the big tracks, finishing 4th in the January 1973 "Permatex 200" at Riverside and 3rd in the 1977 "Warner Hodgdon 200" at Ontario.

Gordon Haines, 91, died October 3 following a traffic accident in Yakima, Washington. Nicknamed "Tiger", Haines was a top short track stock car racer in the Pacific Northwest in a lengthy career. In 1956, Haines competed in 7 races that counted towards NASCAR's Grand National championship, finishing 2nd at Eureka, CA and 4th at Sacramento.

From Ken Graham on the Canadian Motor Sport History Group forum:

"Sad News...My long time good buddy Craig Hill passed away to-day.... I'll post funeral arrangements later.
R.I P. Craig. Race on..."

From the Canadian Motor Sport Hall of Fame:

"In a driving career that spanned almost 40 years, Craig Hill raced and won in almost every type of racing car, from midgets and super-modified stock cars to sports cars and sophisticated open-wheel formula cars. He was Canadian Formula B champion in 1969 and '70, driving a Formula Ford he modified to formula B spec. He co-drove with Ludwig Heimrath to win the Sundown Grand Prix in 1973 and 1974.

As advertising and promotions manager of Castrol Canada, he was instrumental in that company's wide involvement in all forms of motor sport."

On 1 July 2010 Jack Cordingley from Lancashire died.
According to the following obituary from the Rossendale Free Press he was 93.
Can anyone with access to the relevant records provide his birth date? (I had him listed under 1918 but that seems to be wrong.)

FORMER motor racer Mr John Stancliffe Cordingley, of Gregory Fold, Helmshore, died on Thursday, July 1, aged 93.

Mr Cordingley, also known as Jack, was a motor dealer and grandson of the founder of Cordingley Corner, a well established motor dealers of Haslingden, where he worked up until retirement.

He was also a dispatch rider in World War II and took part in the D-Day landings.

Mr Cordingley, was a great sportsman throughout his life winning junior formula motor racing at Silverstone. He was also an honour member of Rossendale Golf Club and former captain.

And in his youth he played water polo for Haslingden Baths.

He leaves behind his wife of 70 years, Mary, daughter Pat, son-in-law Peter, granddaughter Louise and grandson Charles, and two great grandsons, George and Freddie.

The funeral took place on Thursday, July 8, with a service at St Thomas Church in Helmshore with Canon Roger Smith, followed by an interment at Haslingden Cemetery.

I learned tonight that long time race mechanic and fabricator Tim Douthat passed last month. He worked for Al Holbert and many, many other race teams over the years. I lost contact with him and his brother Dick, who raced in the SCCA. Their mother was my High School secretary. She passed this week.

Reinhard, most news reports are saying that Walther died on the 27th.

Also, Tony Greig Australian? South African, maybe, but surely British as befitting a former English cricket captain and cricket legend.

You're welcome. I'm only sorry that I don't get more time to look and search and try and help out more.

However, I went through the 2012 list and I've got a few gaps filled. If you haven't already tried it - this site; http://www.dellam.co...b...DE=GB&BOT=0 - the link takes you straight to the search page, but it is basically www.dellam.com has FULL dates of birth for any director listed and it's where I got Dave Baldwin, Severino Nardozi and other details...

So the three that I can fill in are; Roger Dowson 9th February 1944; Selwyn Hayward, 25/9/1933 and Graham Dyson, 26 Feb 1944. But hopefully Dellam will allow you to solve a lot more. Word to the wise, it may, after a while, stop you looking at any more records. This only happens during one login as it were, so normally you can go on the next day and try again.

It gives Hugh Hayden's date of birth as 18/10/1944

Formula Junior pioneer Aquila Branca died a few days ago, at the age of 89

He took part in the very first FJ race, at Monza in June 1958, and built cars bearing his own name and that of Moretti, for whom he also competed in the 750 sportscar class

The FJ Historic Racing Association reports that 'Aquilino' returned to FJ in recent years through involvement in historic racing

Sad news, he also raced in Formula 2 in 1960 at Siracusa, but his race was pretty short, spinning out on lap one.

Russ Bullen, San Diego area super stock star of the 60's and early 70's, who also raced at other Southern California tracks and made one start in NASCAR's Western series, passed away January 13 in Chula Vista. Bullen began racing jalopies at San Diego's Balboa Stadium in 1953 and was 1964 and 1966 ECSCRA super stock champion at Cajon Speedway, the first coming on dirt, the second in the first season the track had a paved surface. He won a track record 7 consecutive main events during the 1966 season.

I know there are a number here who picture short track racers in the U.S., particularly stock car racers, as rednecks and yokels, driving cars that are primitive (at least to them*), while wearing t-shirts with a rolled up sleeve containing a pack of cigarettes. While there was occasionally someone fitting this broad caricature, Russ Bullen was the antithesis of the stereotype. Bullen was a CPA and carried himself with the class and dignity of a Dan Gurney. In fact, Gurney is a good comparison save for Bullen having dark hair. He was a lifelong member of the San Diego Country Club and spent his later years travelling and golfing extensively.

And, lest you think this was an anomaly, the same Cajon Speedway near San Diego also had a judge racing alongside Bullen.

*the "stock cars" that Bullen raced had evolved by the late 1960's into tube framed chassis with fiberglass bodies. One writer described them as "essentially sprint cars with fiberglass stock car bodies."

 Very sad and very unexpected news. 66 is no age at all these days. One of the better drivers never to make a F1 start.

He did make the one F1 start - I saw him race in the 1976 International Trophy at Silverstone, having also witnessed him crashing on the run up to Druids on the warm up lap for the 1976 Race of Champions.

RIP
