Yes, it is. It was ok this morning, out at lunchtime and still out ...

ETA: 'since last visit', nothing.  But when I click on 'last 24 hrs', bingo, new posts.  Sigh.

ETA 2:  I wonder if anyone is reading this ....

Is this the same for everyone? I know I keep asking this question, but a few people are just answering with "it's broken" rather than saying what it is which is broken...

If the only option which doesn't work is "since last visit" then it seems like choosing a different timeframe will fix the problem. You will get all of the same threads listed as you would have had in "since last visit" in reverse chronological order, but with additional threads listed underneath. If you've selected "Mark threads in which I have posted" in your user profile then you will also be able to see which of these threads have new posts in since you last visited them...

It's the View New Posts.  I don't even know where the "last 24 hours" thing is.  But why should I change the timeframe anyway?  I'm a bona fide subscriber...

"New since my last visit" and "Past 24 hrs" are the only two options that do not function for me as at this post.

Now neither 'since last visit' and 'last 24 hrs' work, I have to go to 'in last week' to get a result, like Young Gun.

Grayson, it might work but there is a progression occurring here.  It is not just broken, it is getting worse - can you not see that?  Geeze ...

Same here. Incidentally, checked my own posts for today (Tuesday) in my profile and they do not show. Not sure if this always happens when search new content doesn't work but this has happened on the last couple of occasions that I have checked.

The last post that I have made which shows in my own content is registered at 17.02 20th November. Not sure how many posts I have made since then, certainly 12-15. Appreciate that they're all probably crap and not worthy of showing but they are in the threads.
Has to be related Grayson.

Content I have not read: none

New since my last visit: none

Past 24 hours: none

Past week: 6 pages (but this thread is not listed and I believe many others are missing too)

past 2 weeks: 10 pages (listing also missing content)

Past month: 12 pages (this thread still not listed)

Past 6 months: ditto

Past year: ditto

The only one I am interested in is the 'New since my last visit', and it displays content, or not, seemingly at random.

Viewing new content for last 24 hours bring up no new content, viewing last week returns results. However, I don't know if it is bringing up all the actual new posts because Search seems a bit broken too. No results for Hamilton or Vettel later than 20 Nov 17, for instance.

Thanks - those reports are useful for trying to figure out what's going wrong here.

The problems with the search results are definitely related to the "find new content" problems...

Can say this with certainty. Have checked a dozen or so posters who I know have posted regularly over the last 48 hours. None have anything showing after 17.20 on the 20th November.

I am having problems with this now.

Selecting 'View New Content' and toggling through the Time Period options gives various results - No New Content under Since Last Visit and Since 24 Hours, but most threads appear under the longer time period options.

But looking at the RC Forum, I find the active  'Abu Dhabi build-up' thread there although there is no sign of it at all under any of the View New Content options.  And ironically, the same applies to this thread!  I have cleared my history but no difference.  I am using Mozilla Firefox..

Firefox 57 (aka Quantum) or the Firefox 52 Extended Support Release version? It could make a difference.

I use firefox on my laptop, not sure which version but will check. Nevertheless, results are identical on Silk which is an Amazon specific version of Chrome for Kindle.
On neither has there been any change since 17.30 on the 20th of this month. This includes all users profile content as well as my own.

Yes, mine is Quantum V2, do you know this to be a problem. If you are using Quantum, are you able to see anything beyond 17.30 on November 20th when checking "find content" in a user profile?

Edit.

I have checked on a 3rd device which I never use and the result is the same.

Maybe I can narrow it down a little more. I click "my profile", then on L.H. side of sceen is "overview" under which is likes, topics and posts. Clicking on "posts" shows me my most recent 5 posts only. Clicking "find content" on R.H. side of screen produces nothing later than 17.30 on 20th November. This applies to any poster whose "find content" button is operated. Seems to me the problem lies in the word "content". I have removed cookies and re-logged in.

It is apparently 'Firefox ESR 52.5 0 (32-bit)' and the problem is getting worse.

Yeah, the Quantum thing is a red herring. I've tried Firefox, IE and Silk, all results are the same.

Just quoting this to say search is still not bringing me any returns for Hamilton more recent than 20 Nov 17.  Chrome on a windows 8.1 machine if it helps.

Thanks all.

Something's confusingly wrong with the search functionality.

I'm hoping that our developers can figure out what's wrong here and to fix it. It looks like a totally different problem to our previous ones, but that's not much of a consolation.

As of right now, I have to go to 'past two weeks' to get a result - none of 'since last visit', 'past 24 hrs' or 'past week' will produce a result.

It might be a 'totally different problem' to you, but the symptoms for us are all too familiar.

Indeed. Proves conclusively that something quite dramatic happened last Monday 20th between 17.00 and 19.00.

Checked a couple of threads to check timings of this event. Working at 18.10, not working at 18.33 on the 20th. Suggests that this is the window when something went haywire.

I have just noticed an additional 'problem', which I think others have also reported.

'Content I have not read' throws up posts which do not appear in my 'new since last visit' (or whatever time period works from time to time).  Even though I can get new content in 'last two weeks', 'content I have not read' throws up recent (last few days new content) that does not appear in 'last two weeks' new content. :(

Developers?!  If that is not a misnomer, I don't know what is ...

Specifically, a post timed at 0400 or so was not in my 'new content last two weeks' this morning (c0800) nor just now (c1900), but was in my 'content not read' this evening (I did not look there this morning).

Happened again.

The last post in the McQueen thread (timed at 0537) did not appear in New Content 'last two weeks', but was shown in 'content not read'.  Same thing might be going on in lots of other cases, but because I only take an interest in a few threads it is only those threads I can report on.

Of course, the new McQueen post also did not appear in new content 'since last visit', 'last 24 hrs', and 'last week', because NOTHING appears under those headings.   Still.

Also suggests that the 'last two weeks' new content button is about to stop working, and we will have to revert to 'last month' today or tomorrow.

I am not the one being the most swift on these boards, are we experiencing this issue differently? I select 'view new content' and nothing comes up, so I go in to the individual forums and read from top down, those which have stuff posted since I was on last, and if I thread I post in I do that, then mark whole community read so can start over next time.

Is there something partially working?

I'm sure you'll be very pleased to hear that the problems with the Sphinx from last year are completely fixed - that's why the search is failing to find posts from the last few weeks rather than failing entirely as it was last year.

This month's problems are entirely different - our developers are 95% sure that the problem has to do with the way that posts are being indexed. Identifying the problem is often harder than actually fixing it, so I hope I'll be able to give you some good news soon...

Thank you, Grayson. I am sure it is difficult - otherwise it would have been fixed already.  I have just given up on the View New Content function which I have used for many years and now look at each forum separately.  It is a slight nuisance, but it hardly damages my quality of life!

I also pay to use this site.

But that is not really the point (though it is an aggravating factor).  The point is that it is a service offered to the public, and the public have an expectation of professionalism and competence.  The experience of the last year or so has led me, and others, to question the competence and/or professionalism of the people running the forums.

None of the other forums I use have given me this grief that I get here.  Yes, it is a first world problem, and yes there are work-arounds.  But the bottom line is that it is not functioning as designed - the 'features' are unreliable, raising expectations of the user experience only to dash them.  That is bad for business.

I would like to be encouraged by Grayson's most recent post, but once bitten, twice shy.  First let's see the fix, then let's see if the fix is in fact the solution to this problem - say 12 months down the track!

Actually, the result for me is simply to visit less frequently.  If I can't easily access the content I haven't read I just go elsewhere....

It was broken during the "Halo Thread", yet you seemed vocal on that one.

You make a fair point customer is always right until proven wrong.
