This ins't going too well, quite predictably. I sense at most 3 or 4 posts  willing and/or able to stay faithful to the thread topic.

 

Anyway... Alonso:

 

Pride isn't everything in life. Had you toned it down just a tiny bit at the right moments, you could look a 5 plus titles instead of just two. Silly.

Mika Hakkinen - lovely guy but could only ever win when Ron Dennis ordered Coulthard to let him win to stop him sulking.

No digs like that, please. This is exactly what could escalate into a heated argument in a second. The thread is not about getting each other bashing our favourite drivers jokingly only for others to jump on that and say "finally you admit that about him" or "where is the bashing in that, it's the reality".

If I'm doing this thread properly, my favourite driver as a kid was Giancarlo 'giant killer from midfield' Fisichella, and I still have fond memories of him.

Fisi had a lot of natural talent. But he had nothing else. He wasted his chances. Farted away victory at both Hockenheim 1997 and Canada 1998 by tensing up, checking his mirrors and basically having a panic attack under the pressure of leading, in the latter case especially losing an absolute slam dunk race win and letting Michael Schumacher breeze past him from about half a minute behind. As if to prove he never learnt, he then famously did exactly the same in Japan 2005 years later, getting passed by Kimi Raikkonen on the last lap.

At the Nurburgring in 1999 he literally lasted about 15 seconds after he realised he was leading before throwing it into the gravel trap.

He routinely put up two or three (at a push) good drives a year where he'd pop up on the podium, arise dazzling giant-killing superhero talent, then bugger off back to being nowhere the next race. Brazil 2003 was almost unbelievably lucky and the red flag meant he didn't have time to think about his position long enough to **** it up. When he got his big chance in 2005 alongside Alonso, he was then gift-wrapped victory on his debut but even that didn't stop him spending two utterly pathetic years finishing half a minute behind Fernando every race.

Then, infuriatingly, he'd occasionally pop up and do something outstanding from nowhere like at Spa 2009 to remind everyone how good he was capable of being when he joined the dots.

Verstappen is the 'only turd' in this years championship.

Jacques Laffite was always too serious about his racing. He just never understood that there was more to life than being a Grand Prix driver.

I’ll echo those mentioning Hamilton going vegan. That whole idea that you’re contributing to «saving the planet» by going vegan is outright stupid. Ruminants turn grass into meat, from areas we can’t grow wheat or potatoes or whatever on anyway.
Besides, flying around the globe in a private jet isn’t exactly in tune with saving the planet.

Kimi lacks killer instinct and tolerated nr.2 treatment. That is unacceptable for a WC.

Kubica can (/could) be a real ******** wheel to wheel, tending to crowd people out way more often than necessary. I tend to dislike drivers who do that and don't know why I always gave RK a free pass.
Bottas is *extraordinarily* boring. I cannot recall a single thing that he's said that has been funny.
Kobayashi got involved in incidents a bit too frequently to be allowed to feel hard done by for getting sidelined in F1.
I don't know what JPM was trying to achieve spending almost his entire prime in NASCAR. Such a waste of his talents that he could only display ever so little of it over there.
Luckily I don't need to bash Will Power. He does it better on the track himself than any words could describe.

YYY won the most insignificant title ever. His teammate was slow and in de facto active retirement. Every other better driver than him from then was either retired or in cars ridiculously uncompetitive. He is more famous for his defeats because he could not win on hiw own.

So I'm a big fan of Hamilton, Grosjean, Ricciardo, Magnussen, Hulkenberg, and new ones I like are Albon, Leclerc, and Russell, who I haven't got enough ammunition to grill yet.

 Here goes...

 

Hamilton is an infuriatingly sensitive princess, actually no that's far too demeaning to princesses. We have the likes of Xena, Leia, and the two from Frozen who show that princesses are tough, so Hamilton is certainly not a princess. But he's so fragile and bothered about his image it shows. He is the fastest man on the planet, arguably one of the greatest F1 drivers ever, but he whinges when things go wrong.

 

Oh no Button beat me at Spa, must post telemetry showing it's not my fault. Oh no Rosberg beat me, must sulk. Oh no Bottas beat me, must... congratulate him on doing an awesome job...

 

OK he can be a good sport in defeat, but he's shown he's just too fragile a character when he's beaten at times, and over-reactive. And for someone so proud of their faith and so determined to ram it down our throats that he's a man of god, he sure does sound scared on the radio a lot.

 

Oh no, my engine doesn't feel right, must whine on the radio about it. Oh no, the tyres don't feel right, must tell the world that I won't make it to the end of the race, then proceed to get faster and make it to the end of the race with a win.

 

I have no issue with the veganinininism as I don't seem to notice that as much, he hasn't turned green or anything (not that I see skin colour), but as a man of such ridiculously strong faith, he should show more faith in his team and car and own abilities during races.

 

Grosjean needs to learn how to string corners together. Damnit man, how hard can it be to not crash every other race? In 100+ races he hasn't learned to tone it down on first laps, and is still a whiney little turd when something doesn't feel right to him. He's like a toddler in a rocket ship. Can get to some really fast speeds, but can't control it. And no one cares about your family cook books, you're a driver, not a chef.

 

Ricciardo ran away from a fight, chased money, and doesn't seem to be able to accept when his overtaking has gone too far and relied on others being barged out of the way. A master of overtaking but sometimes believes his own hype and takes it too far. Essentially his wonderfully positive and enthusiastic demeanour sometimes goes overboard in the car and he seems to think everything he does will come out rosy.

 

Magnussen is just a thug. I love his style and think he has shown glimpses of being a decent person, but he's too much of a Viking for his own good. Sometimes appears to not believe that there's such a thing as being on the inevitable losing side of a battle. I don't know if he wants to take the Max route of getting people to think he's a tough cookie so that he has the mental advantage before a battle even begins, but he hasn't shown anywhere near enough overtaking or racing prowess to have such a forceful on track attitude.

 

Hulk... well, where's that podium man?! This is the guy who was the next big thing, but any time opportunity knocks for a podium or a win, he panics and stuffs it up. Brazil 2012, Baku 2017 and 2018, he's in great positions and bins it into walls or Hamilton. The guy either wanted the record of most races without a podium so that he'll be remembered for something at least, knowing he wasn't ever going to set the world alight, or he's too nervous near the sharp end. He hasn't really had any standout moments except having some solid front of the midfield drives where he has qualified well and stayed there. Doesn't seem to have the ability to drive the wheels off the car, unless he literally drives it into a wall in Baku and sacrifices a wheel. Not destined for the podium at all. One day his picture will be in the dictionary next to "journeyman."

Verstappen should have won Monaco twice already, but he loves the walls to much there. He also got beaten to pole every race weekend he's driven, so how good could he really be?

Yeah, but that's because there is probably a fair bit more cattle populating this planet than jet engines (at a wild guess) How is the proper formula anyway, how many cattle equal what size of jet engine? So many possibilities for statistics to prove literally anything one could wish for!

 

And before considering the slight difference in toxicity between a bulls fart and kerosen, there's NASA defining kerosen as "....a fossil fuel created in the ground from decaying animals and plants ....", so vegans should really stay away from it for moral reasons!

BS. Go back 50-60 years, the planet had what, twice as many cattle, and hardly any planes. Planes and cars have since increased in numbers as you wouldn’t believe. Problem is NOT cattle. Gods creations as Hamilton would put it. If they didn’t graze, the grass would rot and that would create greenhouse gases.

Why with a lower population of people would there be more cattle (1960 world population 3 billion, 2019 7.6 billion that's a lot more mouths to feed)? Also grass tends to grow rather than rot if you don't graze on it.

This is what is BS. Fifty to sixty years ago, cattle numbers were three quarters of what they are today.

Please people. We're already embarrassing at debating F1, perhaps that's a sign we shouldn't let ourselves fight over other topics like environmentalism.

He has stopped using private jets (or is using them very rarely) ever since becoming vegan though

(Or ever since the Paradise paper stuff, to stay faithful with the bashing theme )

Hamilton's ability to start internet forum meltdowns is highly irritating to me.

Kimi - if he actually gave more of a **** he'd be elite level of driver, but I respect that he's pretty much just doing this for the fun of it now.

Vettel - Not sure what he was thinking with the mansel mustache and Kim jong un haircut combo. Maybe it's a german fashion thing or maybe all those spins have messed up his perception. I don't know.

Hulk - Shits the bed when a podium opportunity comes along

Ric - Good at divebombing in a red bull, but he's not particularly a stand out overtaker in my eyes. Kimi and Lewis are a step above him in that regard.

Leclerc - Rough around the edges, only down to lack of experience.

Verstappen - a bit of a dick head but so are many other young guys at his age, he will grow out of it.

Spent 80% of his time in Damn quick mclaren mumbling about understeer on entry and oversteer on exit..
And DC even admits he was given a driving lesson by Mika.
DC fans would've endured tough times most of his career though so I won't go calling him Cubehead..(whoops it slipped out)
