As far as I know the above is not correct.

They're only sourcing the engine from Mercedes.

The rumour is later in the season they might also take the Mclaren KERS.

The gearbox is their own.

it's shame if they ditch their version of KERS all together.

I'd seen something (realhondaf1?) that suggested that currently the car wasn't able to take the Merc KERS and that it'd be by around mid-season that they thought they'd be ready to race it.

I think one of our engineers said they're probably using Mac gearbox internals in their own redesigned casing. By the sound of it Honda parts wouldn't be available.

On kers, I guess that would also have been Honda originally, now not available, presumably they need Mac-esque sidepods to fit the Merc kers.

Initially it was the plan for Honda to have a KERS integrated with the gearbox, shame they couldn't push on with that...

Congratulations and best of luck to Brawn GP!
Sensible choices on the drivers too!

I pray this team gets through the first year and has a good luck in points scoring. Must be an amazing challenge that Brawn can run his own team.

I love the colors!

This kind of move reminds of the 70s and 80s when people like Frank Williams and Ron Dennis as previous mechanics / technical leads took risks and started their own teams! Offcourse F1 is different, times are different, but the spirit is the same.

This is different than some billionaire coming along and pumping money into something they will never 100% understand

Especially since the early indications were that the Honda KERS system was one of, if not the most advanced. It would be interesting to know who owns the rights to that technology, where its Honda or the F1 team. Not that it matters now, the original KERS system is unlikely to feature on the cars and all signs point to a homologated KERS system in 2010.

Any thoughts/speculation/wild guesses on the car itself. Think I agree with undersquare that its unlikely to have extreme Reb Bull or Renault style 'coke-bottle' sidepods of the McLaren KERS system is in there. Imagine it'll have to be something similar to Force India or McLaren themselves.

I'm holding out for something innovate and exciting, given the extended development time they've had and the chance to repsond to the designs of others. Perhaps a William/Toyota diffuser arrangement?

Back on topic, it is great to see we should have 20 cars on the grid in Melbourne. It's also interesting to see they got assistance from the government agency, BERR...

I understood it cost Pepsi Co a billion dollars. Yes, with a B.

Wtf is that Pepsi document  :rotfl:

How can you spend a billion dollars on a logo redesign? I can understand reproducing everything to incorporate a new logo could cost a lot of money, but a billion in R&D would produce a longer report than 27 freaking pages.

With their logo, I'm wondering if the livery will be anything like the debut FMS / Coloni GP2 livery that never saw the light of day...

Maybe it's something to do with where the team is located? Brackley? The BR from that and the AWN from Brawn? I did wonder the same thing when I saw it.

Jesus, you could give some stoners at the art commune a few hundred bucks and get that report. That's 27 pages of some seriously Timecube magnitude crazy.

A friend of mine work said the new Pepsi logo reminds him of a really fat person whose [red] t-shirt isn't big enough, exposing his belly. Just draw a head and some limbs on the logo and you'll see what he means  Like the FedEx "invisible arrow" in the logo, once you notice this, you can't not notice it... :cat:

Now all they need is Fyffes or Chiquita to sponsor them and Ross Brawn will do the rest.

Maybe the 'BR' in Brawn is different because it represents British Racing. A hangover from the old 'British American Racing' guise. And maybe the livery is like this:

http://www.autosport...41H7CX0IG9340-2

...Being serious though, it was probably some guys idea of designing a creative logo (done on the cheap no doubt). :

British flag on a british GP team, obvious,... Must be an idea of Fry proposed with his intention to keep his profile as high as possible and keep Ross's as anonymous as possible.

As happy as I am for everyone at the team.. I'm not sure what to think of this name at all. Brawn GP? Is that the best that they could come up with? I think that it might be a little awkward to hear the commentators say "Brawn Mercedes" or "Jenson Button in the Brawn."

Ah well, it's not the name that counts anyway.

They should call it R.I.P. Honda.

What's the relation of F1 with compact cars nowadays?
Its non-sense. Honda killed the NSX, but was spending tons of $ in F1.

I understand that in Willians / Lotus /McLaren times they were an unknow quantity worldwide and the involvement w/ F1 had a purpose to say:
- Hey, look what I can do!

it sounds as strange as

Well they're obviously working to a very tight budget if that logo is anything to go by!

Agreed.

I think Fry is clearly not a total numpty, its more a matter of Brawn finding a role for him which uses Frys best skills. And as long as he has to report to Brawn he cant do much damage!

Reminds me of when Price Waterhouse merged with Coopers & Lybrand. First letter received from the new firm straight afterwards had that jumbled-up writing. I thought they'd knocked it up on their printer as a stopgap whilst they got a proper logo sorted out.

10 years later they are STILL using it.

It's a horrid logo, really, unbalanced and clumsy. Not even a serif. Plus it will be difficult to trademark it as it's just writing in a funny way. I hope it's not the PwC situation and they get something more interesting sorted ASAP.

The BR in the logo clearly represtents Brawn Racing (I know the name is Brawn GP). The italics on the AWN represent speed and moving forward.

Perhaps that Fry (if he will be kept) will occupy the marketing & sponsors relationship front... the nice words and positive image part... I think it can be argued that he is fairly skilled in that area...
