Now that would be something to get the 7 DRIVERS as well it would have really been scrapping along the road.

My guess after looking at results and pics from the Inaugural Long Beach F5000, race the answer is........David Hobbs "Getting A Lift " after running out off fuel on the last lap.

And in reply to Chezrone question not only would get burnt but also you get a bill for repairs to the engine cover they were only light guage alloy or f/glass .

Davison might not have been feeling much pain....His gearbox failed just near the Pub early in the race.

I don't know if this counts but back in the late 1950s I had an arrangement with Jim Clark and Innes Ireland that if I was marooned out on the circuit such as at aintree shown here. I would give the thumbs sign from the side of the track on the last lap and on the slowing down lap they would stop and pick me up to get me back to the pits. On this occasion it was when Innes won the sports car race at the British Grand Prix at Aintree with the DT Lotus 19. Sadly health and safety might frown on this today.

These modern cars have decent seating, a footrest [floor] and plenty of hand grips. Ideal for passenger service. Fernando looks quite comfortable there. Though I still would like to know the repercussions!
Though he is defenitly not color coordinated!

I recall stories at the time to the effect that Ayrton had made a point of memorising some of the details of the Williams' instrumentation and gizmos, and duly reported the information back to the McLaren engineers! Mansell even received some criticism for supposedly allowing a rival to "spy" in this way....!

Did they both get fined for bringing the sport in to disrepute.....

Bringing the sport into disrepute would be a pretty difficult thing to do these days. The difficulty would lie in the verb 'bringing' Then there's the use of the noun 'sport'...

Amazingly there were no sanctions! It happened at the end of the race: Alonso stopped on the circuit because the team thought he was low on fuel for the mandatory post-race sample and Webber kindly stopped to pick him up. The FIA later issued a po-faced statement saying that Webber would not face any sanctions for stopping on the return to the pits to pick Alonso up - even though it could have been viewed as a breach of the rule requiring cars to proceed directly to parc ferme. Presumably, Alonso was guilty of that crime too.

I went to the local tip today and what do i find setup near the weight bridge ,this is a full size Polystyrene and Fiberglass Castrol promo car with a big Toy Dog driving and a Toy Soldier " Getting a lift" from the tip.

If there is another person behind (2) and (3) and I'm right about another person on the right, that's nine in total. I might be wrong but I think I see at least five legs hanging over the right hand side of the car and I doubt Jake The Peg was part of the crew.

Mercedes Benz had a specially-adapted W125 two-seater, which was used to shoot a propaganda film at the 1939 Eifelrennen meeting. In breaks between filming the team drivers were allowed to give joyrides on it: I know Caracciola took Neubauer out and Seaman took Erica, but if anyone has any other details (or any photos) ...;)
