Looks like Billy monger went flat out into the rear of a more or less stationary car

Fingers crossed, video on YouTube

It looked like they were both moving around in their cockpits, which is heartening. Hoping for good news.

There are not many incidents in Motorsport these days which truly startle you.

However, this was one.

Reports are that Billy Monger is still in the car an hour later, currently being extracted by medical staff.

The video does seem to show he is moving of his own volition moments after the impact.

Race will nominally be restarted after the lunchbreak but we'll have to see if that actually happens; no news yet

Totally agree. Even knowing there was a crash coming I still jumped when it happened.

A mechanical failure maybe? That's what it looked like but it's an odd place to have one

Still in the car, confirmed by the live team on ITV; various comments about being careful about extraction from the car etc.

Seeing it for the first time that is a very nasty crash. As they're reporting on ITV, the time it is taking to extract Billy Monger is to do with the difficulties of getting through a carbon fibre chassis, and the procedures in place for a safe extraction with likely injuries. Hopefully it will not be too serious.

All of a sudden the shield and the halo don't look like such a bad idea.

The crews will treat for the worst and hope for the best. If they need to take the car apart around him, they will. ANY possibility that there are any back, neck or spinal injuries they will do everything to immobilize his back and neck.

It will depend also on what is going on with his feet. The tub may have been compromised, you can see on the video that the steering wheel is smashed out of place so who knows what else is going on down below.

I just hope a young career hasn't been put on the ropes.

I doubt it. That would just be more stuff into his face.

That accident looked absolutely horrendous. I hope they both come out of it OK.  :(

Seems the other driver is O.K, but going to hospital to check; which is good

Carlin on Facebook -

"Following an incident in race three of the Formula Four British Championship at Donington Park this afternoon, Carlin driver Patrik Pasma was taken to the on-site Medical Centre for assessment. Patrik, who is fully conscious and able to communicate with team personnel, will now be transferred by ambulance to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham for further checks and observation overnight. Our thoughts remain with Billy Monger who was also involved in the incident."

By the nasty looks of it though, he seemed to have crashed heavily into the other car. So maybe they had issues seperating them or wanted to be extra cautious.

Anyway, hope he's ok.

You've got to worry for his feet/legs. That looked awful when the cars were coming to rest, the front of his pretty much became one with the rear of the car he hit. Long extraction time trying to untangle all that.

Very nasty but hopefully he makes a full recovery.

Also worried about his right hand. He was turning and the wheel and fingers were above the cockpit edge.

Really hope he is ok as that was a truly horrible crash.

Holy smoke, that is some impact. Sincerely hope both drivers are ok and make a full recovery. Must be worst nightmare for family and friends to see/know this and for the extraction to take so long, but hopefully it's for the best.

That looks bad, not just the crash but the situation as well.

I can't see from that video what caused the car in front to slow down.

I imagine it must have been quite sudden, otherwise you'd think the driver would have either left the racing line or white flags would have been waved.

Best wishes to both drivers.

It's a difficult place to slow down because the track curves quite sharply and the racing line goes from the left-hand side of the track to the right and then back to the left again.

Apparently Pasma had a spin on the damp track, onto the grass and then slid back onto the outside line, hence why he was stationary when Monger arrived.

Running into a stationary car at full racing speed is always the nightmare scenario - just a terrifying amount of energy.

Fingers crossed that both drivers can make a complete recovery.

As I said in the BTCC thread, it's not very often that a crash makes me physically jump - I was watching it live and I almost had a heart attack. Horrible accident - hopefully both Billy and Patrik will be okay.

No yellow flags that I could see.  Surely though even with a catastrophic mechanical failure a driver should be able to coast off the track.

How long was Pasma stationary? There didn't seem to be any warning about his car sat there.

Thanks. That could happen fast and unpredictably enough for there to be no white or yellow flags.

Someone above said he spun on to the grass and slid back into the track. The car in front of Monger seems to react pretty suddenly to it as well so if I was to guess it hadn't been on the track more than a few seconds not long enough for any safety procedures (flags, radio) to kick in or have an effect.
