Well the FIA General Assembly is in St Petersberg on 3-7 December and it is at the formal dinner at the end of that so I guess it's on the 7th.

There’s really only one category that matters
Best OP
Other categories could include:
Most myopic view of racing.
Best graph to uphold your point of view.
Most derailing minutiae used in a thread.
Best OT post.
Poster that’s knows it all yet has never left mums front bedroom.
Stupidest conspiracy theory.
And on and on.

No going to lie, it annoys me that basically the fans never actually see the champion receiving his trophy and celebrating. Instead it's all behind closed doors for people in motorsport who get invited. Is F1 (or motorsport in general) the only sport where you don't actually see the winner receive their medal/trophy at the end of the season?

In Nascar we saw it right after the race.
And last Sunday was broadcasted FIM MotoGP Awards 2018 on my cable tv.

The best thing about the FIA gala is how the third place driver gets laughed at by the fourth and fifth placed drivers, gleeful that they don't have to go and eat I don't know chicken in a basket and listen to Jean Todt.

The FIA gala.... motorsports prize giving event, in which the number of those attending outnumbers those who give it any attention. Incredibly poorly done. A free evening out for the suits.
Probably not free. I expect that tickets cost a thousand pounds or something.

Best Alonso thread, we've had a lot. I vote for the one on Horner calling him toxic.
Or was it Marko?

Also, Indy had a collection of terrific OPs. They might as well have been the best threads of all this year. Period.

What time is tomorrow Gala?
#19
Posted 06 December 2018 - 21:22
It's tomorrow in Petersburg, another thing horribly wrong in F1. A stupid ''party'' in suits for only the ''elite'', yeah that will bring the sport closer to the fans...

Great. A Putin party, F1 and Todt would sell their own mother for some more money and influence. What a way to celebrate all the titles...

It's an FIA party for the people who have accomplished something in the FIA's motorsport series.
Everyone from Junior Karting and Japanese Formula 4 to Formula 2 and African Rally is there.
Most people in racing, even the successful ones, aren't showered in millions like F1's drivers are.

What an embarrassing ceremony The FIA should be ashamed. The poor girl presenting should get a medal!
Indeed, what a horror show, better to keep this for themselves next year...

I don't know how Kimi does it. He's free to do anything and everyone loves it.
Imagine Lewis appearing this drunk at a FIA event. He'd be criticized and we'd get an apology on Instagram the next day.

I dunno, it'd be great to see Lewis loosen up. You only get to see faint glimmers of 'Lewis' when he's messing around in press conferences, and he can actually come across as likeable. The rest of the time, unfortunately, his behavior just seems so contrived that he's sticking a target on his own back. If you've got nothing to say, say nothing. Don't try and force out some poignant statement or sickly sentiment.

People think Kimi is cool and he behaves in a genuine way, that's why.
The few videos of Lewis drinking and partying, i find cringy..

Pathetic people getting their smartphones out and filming it all. Although Kimi probably doesn’t give a f*

So Lewis enjoying himself in his own way isn’t genuine? Very different characters- to each his own.
