Edit: In the end I’ve chosen to play as Jordan King as he’s the only driver in the field I’ve actually seen racing, in Indycar. I never have time to actually watch F2.

One issue I have with Codemaster's f1 games is a problem they've never fixed, i.e. the AI cars ruining laps during practice & qualifying. They come out of the pits & race me down the straight on their outlap & then break test me on the corner, or haphazardly feign moving over on the straight to let me pass & then block me on the next turn. When I'm doing research & development, it's totally infuriating. In real life they'd be penalized but in the game they're not. I also believe the AI are far too aggressive going into turn one the first lap & their behaviour seems to be tailored for lower damage settings rather than full simulation. Starting in midfield requires a miracle to not damage the front wing on the first turn. That seems like a bigger problem this year than in previous versions.

Blasphemy! I'll start the season as Raghunathan, he's a living legend.

But haven’t brought myself to play the 2019 season yet. The field is weaker, the Hubert/Correa tragedy is an issue too. I’ve tried to start one a few times and felt slightly flat about it.

In the end I chose Ilott for no particular reason. I’ve done a few races but without the development, rivalry and parts management of the career mode I got a bit bored.

The game update to V 1.15 will swap Gasly and Albon to reflect their current teams.
For those of you who found it bothersome, the mid-season driver transfer logic has been amended, and an option to disable driver transfers or limit them to the off-season is being incorporated.

The demo for this is now available on at least Playstation and probably Xbox too.

No patch on XB1 yet. Grr.

From what I understand there's a Microsoft issue that tends to delay updates. I'm sure we'll get the update too.

Hopefully. The one that added the 2019 F2 grid came pretty quickly from what I remember.
I love my XB1X but the delay in patches compared to PS4 is a pain.

Then I just have to wait and see(read) how this all works out, and then I might end up buying the game!

Patch out on Xbox, finally.
makes career mode worth bothering with, for me, finally. Also discovered they’ve got the option to skip F2 and avoid having to have Butler and Weber on the grid too. AND you can now choose your team-mate.

That option was always there.
I don't see why the driver swaps were a deal breaker for your career mode, but hey, enjoy it. It's bloody good fun either way.

I am still in season 1 in career, currently at Singapore. I have been procrastinating about doing this race for over a month, something about it is just really off putting to me. Not a fun track, it just feels like work. Sort of like Yas Marina.

It would be interesting if you could make all the driver transfers yourself as opposite to the computer throwing out some random **** like Vettel in a Williams. Or at least being able to regulate it down in a way that only 1-2 driver changes are possible during the season and more post-season. Since it's a 10 years career and they have F2 drivers in this game I also dont see why you cant have them getting promoted at some point (as a option). There are plenty situations where the driver I replaced comes back when I leave, you could have a F2 driver for that instead here and there.

Nearly done with my second season and there’s only been 1 in season driver swap. I don’t think the logic was that broken to begin with.
As for Vettel in a Williams, depends how quick the Williams is. As far as know it was never randomly generated, but tied to the team performance. What’s unrealistic is how teams can move up and down the pecking order so quickly.
Having the F2 drivers in would be a good option though.

My silly season into season 3 has been disappointingly boring. I wanted to take my No.1 to Williams, so I swapped with Perez who is now in my place at Mercedes. Honestly Codemasters, I know people complained there were too many swaps but this is too far the other way.

Also PU regulations are changing after only 1 season. Did this happen to anyone else or is something like this random?

I had some regulation changes at the end of season 1. Can't remember what parts needed work. No regulation changes into season 3.

I made a "terrible mistake" by buying a VR headset, because now I can't enjoy driving on a flat screen anymore.

I've only done some of the weekly events online. The ones that ran alongside the real races. Apparently you have to do a lot more than that to get a safety rating, as I never got one. I never seemed to get matched up with too many idiot kids, though. It's standard that I "mute all" at the start of any online race.

I've got absolutely no chance of getting any sort of racing. When I finally get my daughter to bed at night I have enough time for a cup of tea before my own bed!

I’m sympathising there. My six month old currently won’t sleep unless he’s on someone and the only chance I get to play on anything is if I do it on the sly with him sleeping on my shoulder and my wife in bed. Arm goes numb after a while. Am in exactly that position as we speak. My lap times have suffered.

This is currently on a free trial on PC for a couple of days so I gave it a whirl. I'd never played an F1x game on my PC. Especially not a PC with a fairly decent setup. Thankfully I'm able to get over 100 FPS at all times with max details so it felt incredibly smooth to play. The franchise has come a long way since I last tried it. Overall I was impressed. It's £13 for a couple of days. I wonder if any of that is linked to the race being cancelled.

I reckon it might be the most up to date F1 game we play for a little while, too. The current crisis is sure to have a bit of a delaying effect on the new games.

I thought the gaming industry and streaming services will thrive in these conditions, when everyone stays at home. As far as I know, most of the work is done in home office or outsourced in smaller dev studios anyway.

It's more to do with the fact there's no F1 for the next little while, nobody's sure of the calendar etc not least the competitive order - sure they can release it but if they want it to be an accurate reflection of the actual season they'll surely have to put it on hold?

If I was the one making the decision, I'd release the new game as a semi-fictional season with the originally planned calendar and maybe patch it later in accordance with reality if the real season gets underway at some point. I think EA did that once with an NHL game.

EA did it with their first F1 game (albeit with another full priced boxed release rather than a patch). F1 2000 was released in March of that year but, of course, performance values were based on a best guess using the previous year plus limited testing times. The Jaguar was mighty! It also looked and feel a little rough around the edges, trackside and some team sponsorship was missing, etc. so they released the completed F1 Championship Season 2000 in October.
Ironically, F1CS2000 had a horrible bug where overtaking an AI car made that car suddenly go faster, well beyond what it was capable of. Passing a car down Hangar straight at Silverstone, only for it to blast past you at well over 220 mph and then take Stowe like it was Copse.

I don't know what the intended release date was for 2020. I remember 2019 came out earlier than normal. Codies have already demonstrated that they are willing and able to keep the games up to date. 2019 already had two major changes. One when Albon and Gasly swapped seats, and one to update Paul Ricard's layout.
I think they'll have a fair opportunity to release the game quite soon after the season eventually starts. As long as all the teams and circuits are in the game, it's not a difficult job to update the championship mode to whatever it needs to be to reflect reality. And the career mode wouldn't need to change at all, or could be changed so that the calendar changes every year. They already implemented the driver line-up changing every year for 2019.
What I'd hope for is for Vietnam and Zandvoort to appear as updates for 2019, so at least we have some new content before the new game comes out.

I sincerely doubt they'll do that. Those are the main selling points for F1 2020.
I think they'll just release the new game as normal, maybe patching in a "Season 2020" mode to reflect the real thing if/when we have an idea of how that might manifest. At the very least they, and the teams, will want the new liveries and tracks out there for the esports events.

I decided to give online racing a try with my PC version. Rather enjoyable if I ignore the incidents where I was literally pushed off the track at the start. It's amusing how you make the silliest of mistakes when under more pressure. Unfortunately my fun ended when Spa was picked as a track. I can't get up Eau Rouge without spinning. I think it's down to trying to play with a controller rather than a wheel. It's much more difficult to make fine steering adjustments even with the settings adjusted to compensate.

Well as a Williams fan we know how much Vettel loves his F1 History, He should do it.
I am really struggling with F1 2019 now after spending time on Project Cars 2. It is like my first day at school. Was trying to get some practice in before F1 2020.

On season 5 of Career Mode and me and Lukas Weber are in Alfa Romeo. With so many teams close on performance index, it makes for amazing playing from season 5 onwards. Also some nice driver transfers. Driver lineups are this:
Mercedes: Hamilton-Norris
Mclaren: Vettel-Bottas
Racing Point: Perez-Raikkonen
Alfa Romeo: Me-Weber
Ferrari: Verstappen-Albon
Renault: Gasly-Stroll
Haas: Butler-Sainz
Red Bull: Leclerc-Grosjean
Toro Rosso: Magnussen-Kvyat
Williams: Ricciardo-Giovinazzi
After 4 races I lead Verstappen by 4 and Weber by 11 points, including a win at China after an amazing battle with Weber on a semi-wet track on slicks near the end.
