I thought "BMW Sauber" sounds stupid. Got used to it. I thought "Force India" sounds stupid. Got used to it. I thought "Racing Point" sounds stupid. Got used to it. Guess I'll get used to "AlphaTauri", too.

You forgot Super Aguri.
BMW Sauber Ferrari was one of its kind, though. Specially since it didn't involve BMW anymore.

I'm still calling it Force India.
Raikkonen does too

Looking at it again, it’s a decent logo though. It includes the (not so) Red Bull, and the letters alpha and tau. Fairly clever.

This team is an abomination which must be purged.

It is a horrible logo, if you don't know it's an 'a' you don't know it's an 'a' - A logo which is not immediately and intuitively recognizable is a bad logo.

What is it with teams coming up with stupid names? I thought Force India, HRT and Racing Point was bad enough.

Well, thanks for the info I guess, but I think most people learn that in primary school, in my case it was like 25 years ago, but maybe thats just me because I like astronomy
I forgot about Taurus, I never called it tauri, but maybe its just a language thing.
Actually I like team Aldebaran name more than AlphaTauri
Yes it is a language thing. Tauri is the genitive case of Taurus. Not used in English but I think the Latin rules apply to constellations. Just sayin!

Why?
Why shouldn’t also be Mercedes Brawn Honda British American Racing Tyrrell, or MBHBART?
Companies change name all the time.
Because I see it as a naming sponsor rather than a name change, the name change is stupid, having a nameing / head sponsor is done all the time, this season started with these teams on the grid:
- Mercedes AMG Petronas Motorsport
- Aston Martin Red Bull Racing
- Scuderia Ferrari
- Rich Energy Haas F1 Team
- Renault F1 Team
- Alfa Romeo Racing
- SportPesa Racing Point F1 Team
- Red Bull Toro Rosso Honda
- McLaren F1 Team
- ROKiT Williams Racing
You can see how sponsors become part of team name, without the team losing it's identity.

Are they dropping Red Bull from the name? Because that's their identity. Red Bull slave team.

Sort of. Without the text below, you would have no idea whatsoever what letter the second character is supposed to be. The new F1 logo might be a bit crap, but at least it is instantly legible.

A logo only has to be recognisable for what it is, not whether you can instantly read the hidden Greek letters. It’s a subtle detail that if you don’t notice it it’s not going to make the logo less recognisable.

The Nike "swoosh" is a good exemple. It doesn't mean anything when you don't know what it is.

While the idea of incorporating the Greek alphabet into the logo is cool, I definitely feel they missed a trick here. The ‘alpha’ not being continuous makes it look like the bull is jumping out of ‘CST’.Looks black&white

Well, at least we will have a lot fewer misspellings of Toro Rosso...

I just always assumed that it's tow-ree, nothing else even crossed my mind. But maybe as English is not my first language I just don't try to automatically fit every "foreign" word into English pronounciation.
Well being elderly and having spoke the Queens English for half a century, I can tell you right off the bat, and no mistake...
I have no clue until the alpha male Helmut Marko says it from his very own lips.

It’s not a bad name as such, but having Alpha and Alfa will be confusing

Interesting! But that the -au- in Tauri sounds more like thaw-ree or saw-ree than tow-ree, doesn't it? In English, that is. I think Tauri in Latin would sound more like how-ree or Toby Sowery. Not like tow-ree.So it is tow - ree and not tor - ri

I’ve heard the letter Tau being pronounced both ways: “tor” and “tao” so I assume both are correct and it’s probably a regional thing. I’ve always used the latter in engineering situations.

I'm obviously out of step with fashion and the price of normal day to day clothes.
£45 for a standard t-shirt?!
£90 for a normal office work shirt!?
Call the car, what they like, but can't see them shifting much merch at these prices...

Sure hope Haas will change their current livery, otherwise I’m gonna be more confused than the Mercedes- Force India-McLaren grey saga.

Stupid decision in my opinion.
Names shouldn't be changed.
They could have simply put AlphaTauri in the team's full name (like Scuderia Ferrari Mission Winnow or Mercedes AMG Petronas Motorsport) and maintain Toro Rosso.
