I think we are in need of some lighter fare these days.

Just some fun and good old appreciation of what we have and what we have had here on Atlas/Autosport forums

This idea was born when H0R dropped some links for us the other night that really showed just how good some past threads were.

So, for those of you who actually READ and are not just knee-jerk posters, treat this as a repository for some of your best remembered threads and posts you've loved too.

I will start with a few.

1) From Fan in the Stands circa 2003

My Weekend at Bernie's (great unwashed edition)

2) Season Finale WatchParty  2014

+ my favorite post from that thread showing me NEVER to get involved with drivers love lives again

3) 2018 Dual in Detroit  The greatest Photoshop thread ever

4) 2019 Indy 500   and Qualifying  and Practice

5) Finally, a seminal ATLAS F1 Paddock Club thread that is definitely NOT lighter fare but one that formed a true bond between many souls on this website.

911

Ok gang, over you you.

Jp

Spielberg 2016 thread about the Hamilton/Rosberg last lap crash. The banter in this thread later on was pure art.

As a rule of thumb I prefer threads which feature several posts just saying "Satoooo" (add "o"s ad lib).

Then there's The Joni Mitchell appreciation and worship thread

But my secret passion are the Photography Competitions in the Paddock Club. Just lurking, sadly.

And as usual JP is perfectly right: When the forumistas turn serious, they unmask themselves as very decent human beings. The Fire at Notre Dame thread is another good example.

That MS Paint topic is laugh out loud funny- especially the one with Mansell struggling to get out of his McLaren.  Some people are also ridiculously good with it!

I don't know man, it's been so many. I can't possibly pick one Indycar thread. They just morph into one huge collective entity of unabashed amazing.

I do however miss the incredibly highbrow Nascar threads of the past. So good.

That's epic work in the age when there was no Google translate. Nearly hitting the nail on the head 😂

Anywho, I'm kind of boring.. but I always liked the countdown, actually this year it became a countup, threads where many pretty racing cars are shown.

And I guess the IndyCar threads there Frood let's his Photoshop skills go bananas are golden also. Still waiting for that all time bundled threat 😉

My next favorite thread was ????

What was the topic again?

Back in the atlas days there was a guy who posted from every gp, photos of him with cars and drivers and other various persons of interest. Don’t know if that stuff is atill archived here but it was really good. I’m no good at searches, maybe some other old timer knows of which I speak?

There are indeed some classics.

OLB, gm914, Dilla and Red 17  (all unfortunately in the Where Are They Now category) had a majority of them back when JPM was involved.

I had one that was deleted AND I got banned for. It was a race at Texas sponsored by the NRA called The Kill Your Children 500.

Here's the Montoya Jet Dryer fire

and the greatest ever "Chase" finish at Miami in 2011

There ARE others but I have to go feed the donkeys on the hill now.

Carry on.

I quite liked the one that immediately followed Alonso's announcement that he'd run the Indy 500 for the first time. Rarely do these threads hit that many pages so quick.

One of those totally unexpected and seismic moments which increased almost everyone's excitement about the sport.

Is this some sort of euphemism that I have not previously encountered?  Or do you have donkeys on the hill?  Which would be odd enough for this thread.

Your "others" link reminded me of the weird Kurt Busch and his possible international assassin girlfriend thread.

Ah yes, another winner!

I just assumed it was a bad reaction to questionable Mexican food.  You know, attending to something ass-related.  Can't account for the hill though.  And not sure additional contempation will be rewarding.

I remember the good ol' Mr. Bolshevik threads. Anyone remember those?

https://forums.autos...vik/?tab=topics

Oh my god, I've just realized I've been on this forum for close to 20 years...

Just a quick snip from one of his posts:

15 November 2003

Sprocket McGee: "thanks, Dan. The main buzz on the streets this week is a rumour that for the last 3 years, half of David Coulthard's salary was being paid by Ferrari to keep him at McLaren in a bid to undermine their challenge for the championship. When contacted by the media, Jean Todt refuted this by saying:

Todt: "zat is stupid, no? Ze figures, zey would not be adding up. If we 'ad paid David's wages for zis 3 years, we would 'ave 'ad, 'ow you say, not zen been able to keep Jacques at BAR. Think about it."

---------------------------------

Peter Sauber: "Giancarlo, I don't know what things were like at Jordan, but here in my team we work to a strict and exacting philosophy. Do you understand what I'm talking about?"

Fisi: "You getta de call from Jean Todt and I move outta de way ovva de red cars?"

Peter Sauber: "Don't be a fool, we're better than that here."

Fisi: "I'ma sorry boss"

Peter Sauber: "So you should be. We're a smart team - we don't need to wait for a call from Jean, we have technology that'll tell you when a Ferrari is approaching so you know when to move over."

Fisi: "You mean de walkie-talkie sitting inna de drink-holder inna my car?"

Peter Sauber: "Yes. And we've upgraded the system this year - we've given the other one to a guy who's NOT colourblind. No more moving over for Jags!"

Fisi: "Alright!"
