They should do Day 1 on the normal circuit, Day 2 on the endurance circuit and Day 3 on the Outer circuit.

It means less data for the race weekend next week, and means teams can test different configurations, given the lack of testing days.

F1 organisers aren't that intelligent, unfortunately.

TBF the teams get so little testing these days that to swap the track layout on each day would be a bit harsh. However, I don't see why they couldn't use a different layout for the test conpared to the actual race.

The pre-Europe season is testing with points in the current ruleset.

Maybe one day you never know what the f1 organisers will decide if wintertest is totally banned and also free practice.

Doing the first meters in qualifying for the first race.

I’m so glad I made it to the 2020 tests in Spain. Covid was just around the corner. Things haven’t been the same since

Neat idea but it will never come to fruition but speaking of the outer circuit, I wish that the normal configuration would alternate with that one every other year because I really enjoyed how different it was to any other track we’ve had in F1 for a very long time.

Why alternate? Just always use the Outer. It’s the best layout the whole facility has.

Because the Bahraini’s wouldn’t be pleased to have their circuit/event reduced to just that layout I suspect even though it’s better for the spectacle and racing as a whole.

All races should take place on the Outer, but GP track with its greater variety of corners is probably a good test track.

Anyway, it's great to have F1 back in the Middle East for some pre-season action. (Don't mention the wars.)

Yes, I wish they would do this too. It would be easy enough to do. And for the fans there it's a lot better as you see cars more often.

Is it still called ‘the Aramco official shakedown pre race build-up mega test’ or whatever it was?

One thing that pre season testing being televised has done is cemented that sometimes what we see on TV won’t reflect what we see next week when the racing begins. 2019, Ferrari looked imperious, I was aboard the hype train along with many others and then we saw Melbourne and how that season transpired. Part of me misses having to trawl through various websites, live timing sites and poor quality periscope streams to see the cars on track to get an idea of the pecking order as it built up the season’s anticipation.

Testing tires

Only Mercedes, Ferrari, Williams and Stake have ordered C5 tires.

Mclaren and Alpine will not even run the C4 tire.

I assume the C4 & C5 tyres aren’t used at the Bahrain race?

Yeah it was cheaper to just to the test at the same track as the first race, also the conditions at Barcelona are always a bit hit or Miss this time of year!

Woke up this morning. Thinking it was wednesday. Started F1TV, was very disappointed there was no live coverage. Checked the dates for testing. It starts tomorrow. Was a bit confused, could have sworn it did not start on thursday. Had a coffee. Logged in into work. Cursed a bit because i was the only one in the online meeting. Found out it is tuesday. Oh well, one more day and then it starts again :p

Bahrain paid extra for the privelege of hosting the test, and wanted to be the sole venue.

Mind you, speaking of the weather, F2 and F3 had a wet day at Bahrain last week. F4 UAE at Yas Marina even had a wet race!

I think the news of Hamilton moving to Ferrari next season has made a lot of us wish it was now, I think it's taken a lot of shine off this season.

F4 UAE at Yas Marina even had a wet race!

I feel bad for drivers in F4 UAE, racing at Yas Marina 60% of the season.

It really is silly this type of information is released. One of my gripes with modern F1 is there is no room for speculation or even a hint of mystery. Pre-season tyre allocations, ffs!!

Not at all.  I'm looking forward to tooth and nail driving with Ferrari and Merc with teammates.

There is some footage of Merc,Mclaren,Aston,Haas who did shakedowns earlier in the week but it's only about 2am local time right now, so I wouldn't expect any activity for another 5-6 hours.

Only time this year when one might feel hopeful, until the reality of RB domination sinks in as the season progress. :well:

Maybe everyone is just dazzled by this crazy off season!   I'm pumped for testing though, will just be great to see the cars back on track even if we still won't really know the true pecking order until a few races in.

It's that feeling of almost inevitability, isn't it? They're such a relentlessly good outfit on the whole who barely make a single mistake between them all season.

It's almost robotic if you excluded Checo, who seems the only human.
