Haas Technical Thread (VF-19)

Lots of folks didn't notice that the 2018 Renault was yellow with black accents from top and front, but black with yellow accents from the side. It was brilliant that way. 

I thought it was awful because from different angles you cant instantly see what car it is.. livery should be strong and uniquely identify a team. 

Solid first day of testing! Grosjean showed the car could run well. Tuesday has to be about getting a ton of laps down to learn about reliability. 

Haas appear as having good speed, only testing and all... still grounds for optimism for the 2019 I think, did not run a high number of laps, and seemed to simply not finding it worthwhile the first hour when track was so cold useful data would be hard to get.

Not the best day today, but not as bad as it could be. Still working out kinks and that's what testing is for.

Haas has gotten better the longer they have been in F1, Haas have gotten better as the Ferrari engine have gotten better. Which is different than your implication.

A bit difficult to see the details because of the black colour scheme but looks like the bodywork is heavily based on last year’s Ferrari once again. Obviously not exactly the same because of the rule changes.

It’s not just Haas, Red Bull and Torro Rosso are sharing a lot too, so much so that they don’t bother with a technical director any more.

I understand there are plans to clamp down on this for the new rules in 2021 though? Be interesting to see what Haas do then.

Haas will do exactly what they have done all along, compete according to the rules and regulations the sport is run under. The current ones which clearly do not have them fielding a Ferrari car or clone in any way, like Alfa Romero is not even they are as defacto a Ferrari development team, as does Toro Rosso not, even they are a defacto Red Bull development team.

Never made any suggestion Haas are breaking the rules, but if the rules change such that their current model no longer works, I was wondering how Haas would handle that in terms of the extra budget and facilities that may be required.

Liberty's supposed brief is that they will propose or create changes which make it easier to compete both in terms of finance and technology. I don't see the Haas model going anywhere but up. The other teams who whisper about Haas are the ones who feel threatened by change.

Having watched the Netflix documentary, I must say Haas is my new favourite team!

Loved the no bullshit style of management by Gunther Steiner, unpretentious approach of Gene Haas.

Guys on the team look really great too, even the drivers.

No worries. It's 10 episodes and Haas features prominently in several of them. Gunther Steiner is the man, so honest.

If only they could hire some decent drivers for once.

How so? They’re American owned but not really an American team.

We have to look back to USF1 for that.

Depend on what is defined as achieving... There have been 751 drivers taking at least 1 GP start, only 71 one of those have more podiums than him and his 10, only 7 on the current grid have more than 10. He has led 7 GP', only 175 of all drivers have led, and only 67 have led more.

Considering the cars he has had in his career I think he has done ok.

I think he's pretty decent, certainly about right for Haas at this stage in their history.

What a rocketship of a car.  I didn't expect them to be so quick, HAAS really are a world class team.  So impressive.

Haas started out strong in Australia last year, Haas have started out strong in Australia every year - Hopefully they can maintain form through the season, and not tail of as it goes along, which have the case each year they have been on the grid.

Hope for good clean starts for both drivers tomorrow, there is a strong result for the taking in the Class B rankings.

I'll give Haas their dues... for all those (myself included) who complain about how they are able to have a fast car, to actually run it as well as they do and get the speed out of it is a testament to their engineering department. Grosjean was only 4 tenths off Leclerc and Ferrari in what is ostensibly a Ferrari-derived car, not bad at all.

With the exception of Williams all the other teams can and will be 'best of the rest' during the season, some tracks will suit some cars and drivers, some tracks will suit others, some teams development will be better than others.

Haas have from the moment they entered run a well run and professional team, they have had their blunders, but overall a very strong and credible performance from their first race and onwards. I do not expect them to be the class of the Class B field, however getting the points they left all over the place at the beginning of last season will come handy at the end when the 'trophies' are handed out.

Tomorrow we learn about race speed, then we can for our favorite teams get unreasonable high hopes, make over hyped statements, sling a little towards the other teams (and drivers) we for inexplicable reasons do not like.

I am very happy with the Haas start so far.

... It was just the drivers that dropped off now and then.

Proud of the drivers, proud that USA team Haas is showing solid performance at the start of the season, yet again. Proof will be in the race, naturally, but this is a great way to start. 

Three teams had both cars in Q3: Mercedes, Ferrari, Haas.

It takes good cars, good technical teams, good drivers, and tactical execution to get both cars into Q3. Miss on any one of those and you will not make it, as shown by the tactical error by Red Bull and the lack of car (probably) by Renault. 

Will the alleged infusion of $$ from Rich Energy be sufficient to allow the team to be more competitive as the season wears on or will we see them slowly lose ground to other teams as in past years? 

Haas is an enjoyable team to watch.
