After nearly ten years and 133 pages of waffle, time for a new thread, folks. The original is locked, but your collective wisdom can still be found here: http://forums.autosp...s-tnf-meetings/

Part two? I'm sure there were at least two previous threads on the subject and meetings going back to 2002!

Good idea though, Vitesse

I would have preferred it if the last six months of posts had been copied into this thread as a quick reference. :well:

Problem about starting again is we are not "hot" anymore.......we need another meeting again soon to start filling up the cyberspace !!

It seems that the software can't handle long threads. I fear for Books and Cutaway Drawings!

If anyone missed out (like I did) the Atkinson Gallery in Southport has some 'left over programmes' from yesterday's Southport Festival of Speed. They are £5.00 each and I am willing to get in a supply for our next get-together.

Please let me know as soon as possible if you want a copy as I intend to go back there on Saturday.

Steve is referring to the land-speed record 90th anniversary at Ainsdale Beach yesterday, where Sir Henry Segrave's Sunbeam 'Tiger' (nee 'Ladybird') performed a commemoration of his 1926 record-breaking run. There was a little to be desired with the organisation (p..s ups and breweries come to mind - one point being that the commentator, Neville Hay, had little idea of what was going on before him due to the position of his commentary box and the fact that cars went off in a random order - however he did make the best of a bad job), and I suspect that there are a lot more programmes left than were sold at the event due to the lack of people selling them. I managed to collar one as I left the beach and although there is not a great deal in it, there are some interesting features about the Sunbeam and Sir Henry)

I thought I would get a decent parking spot close to the paddock and arrived at 08:00 only to find the whole place swarming with Police intent on booking anyone who didn't use the Pontins car park. This cost £3.00. Having wandered down onto the beach for the 10:00 am start I was told by one of the other Media people it was moved back to 10:30. It actually didn't start until gone 11:00. I was positioned about 450 yards down the one mile track so couldn't hear any of Mr Hay's waffle. It was rather poorly organised with the cars not running in either numerical order or in order of age! It was pot luck and some people actually ran several times.

Crowd control was non-existent and I missed several shots with people just walking in front of you holding up their cell phones - possibly to get a better signal? As I bothered to sign-on as Media I expected to be allowed a tad closer but the Beach Ranger made us all move back in amongst the crowd.

Anyway the offer still stands if anyone wants a programme.

Where is Up North ? Is it what I call down Down South ? This does sound - sorry- a little cliquey- is it or am I forming the wrong impression ?

It is more CLICKY especially when we all start to get up from the meal - mainly knees and hips! As for impressions Kingsley Rob does a great one of the late Mike Hawthorn (emphasis on the late),

Oh it's very clicky John, one of the attendees has a Westfield   ;)

Yes you would call it down south, it's Parbold hill in Lancashire.

Oh yeah the 28th should be ok for me, I'll be heading to Stoneleigh on the 29th for the National Kit Car show.

OK. Avoiding Thursday May 19th, re-opening of The Swift Gallery 2pm - 8pm on that day, which should see some of us there.......

Would the Swift Gallery consider opening until later? Might be worthwhile having a meeting there on the 19th if that is Ok with the rest of you?

We might be able to let ourselves out...... staying open later after 6 hours of Andrew Swift's hospitality would be a tad unfair on him and his staff who do such a fine job, methinks

28th would be OK for me. Can't get to the Swift gallery on the suggested date though :-(  Planning to be in the Outer Hebrides late May...

I think people should be very careful about imposing on Andrew Swift's already very generous hospitality. The Swift Gallery is a superb venue for motor racing enthusiast, but it isn't a private club and I feel that to expect him to adjust his programme to suit TNF members is a deal presumptuous.

Fully agree, Alan. The 2 events are wholly different, and should be kept well apart. How's Thursday June 2nd for a TNF meet?

We will still be in the Hebrides. Can't we stick with April 28th?

I'll be in the Lakes on 28th.

However, we will also be in the Outer Hebrides; from 20th May to 11th June, so how about a really Northern TNF meeting?

David, should I be looking out for an Elan M100 or a motor-home? We will be in the latter.

As I haven't seen anything confirming today's scheduled meeting I am assuming that it is deferred.

Keep me posted on a new date.

I don't think today was ever suggested, let alone scheduled!

I think we're looking at June now and need to avoid the European Championships for David's sake. How about the 9th?

A reminder to anyone on or near our patch next week, Andrew Swift is reopening The Swift Gallery in Fenton on Thursday 19th May, this summer's theme is "Images of Le Mans". The opening event runs from 2pm to 8pm, see here

www.swiftgallery.co.uk, everyone welcome, JohnP

This week's email from Andrew points to some interesting items that Bentley are bringing to the Opening Day. Knowing The Swift Gallery connections with Crewe, it's likely to be more than a pair of driving gloves and a watch JohnP :)

A great opening day event at The Swift Gallery on Thursday. Andrew Swift has again expanded his splendid collection of photographs, artwork and models. This summer's theme of "Images of Le Mans" was complemented for the day with the extraordinary sight of three Bentley Speed 8s inside the front door, including the 2003 winning motor. Current Bentley Boy and winner in that race Guy Smith was there, together with a great bunch from Bentley Motorsport. You will see these cars out and about individually at Festivals. This is the first time they have ever been out together in public. No better place to do it.

Anyone fancy changing the head gasket on this? One of the Bentley crew(e) said we could take it around the car park ".....if we could start it !"

 Hi,all. The donkey is up for an evening of eating and nostalgia...

But while we are waiting can I just say what a gentleman Richard Attwood is. Last night at The Swift Gallery Andrew treated us to another interesting evening with the third Le Mans winner to visit this year. If you haven't been this year do try and get there - the Le Mans exhibition is first class. Please tell Andrew that there really should be more recent Henri Pescarolo photos ;)
