It did look like Hill parked in the middle of the corner there. So strange

I suspect Damon had a drivetrain failure of some sort. Possibly due to the second start.
How can a car's roll hoop shear off so easily? I'd be worried about my safety if I was Jean Alesi right now.

There was actually accident in F3 race earlier that year in the same corner where roll-bar failed similarly. That time driver wasn't as lucky and he was paralysed.

I like the old one because it just gets on with it and goes on to more interesting parts of the track.
The Nurburgring short circuit has three things going for it: the hairpin, the fast climb back up to the pits, and the weather.

Old vs new first-corner complex at the Nürburgring - which do you prefer?
The new one is an abomination. I don't know what happened in Germany in the early 2000s but it seems like every one of their circuits had their first corners ruined.

The new first corner is better in my opinion. The problem is what comes after it.

Firstly, I really don't remember so many cool over the shoulder cameras being used back then. They were great.
Second, can "Ralfy" stick for Schumacher?

The biggest issue with the one was that second corner (left-hander) was tighter than the first which led to situation where cars short-cutting the chicane were more dangerous for those staying on track as they returned.
Can't find the video right now but F3000 race in 2000 is a good example of that.

Zanardi should have stayed in CART, wonder what Montoya would be doing in that Williams, but JPM is glad he want to CART.

Tyres also play a huge part in the wake, Pirellis would degrade too much. These 99 tyres don't seem to mind.
