The Madgwick sticker on his visor comes from a Cadwell meeting when Antonio Albacate's helmet failed scrutineering and Antonio borrowed Andrew's helmet for his race. I have a piccy somewhere that I can post.

Alan, what year(s) did you race your PRS in those colours?

Have just found another shot of Worswick in full flight at Longridge...

Once again, there is a Mini lurking in the background (and also, in this case, the barriers). The driver, I believe, was Dave Price.

Warren Booth practised the Worswick technique later that day, but found it suited a Mk1 Escort better than an F2 Scott.

Would you mind explaining to the Forum this moment of high drama during your trip up and down the Hangar Straight?

Very simple. Nowadays Silverstone has about 367 circuit permutations (if you include Stowe, South, National, International, Subterranean etc etc), but back then there were only two - Club and Grand Prix (and they overlapped). While Jim Russell pupils were trundling up and down the Hangar Straight, there was a general test session taking place on the Club circuit. Unfortunately, Neil Crang cocked up Becketts while testing his F/Atlantic Tiga (because of a technical problem, I believe) and decided to use the GP circuit as an escape road. It was only when he exited Chapel, and saw 17 Van Diemen RF78s travelling towards him at about 43mph, that he became aware of activities elsewhere.

I posted these pics on the DSJ thread, but they might merit an outing here, too. Barrie Williams drove Ludovic Lindsay's "Turtle Drilling Special" oval racer at VSCC Silverstone 1991

It turns out, from the other thread, that Sam Hanks' role as driver was a figment of the signwriter's imagination as he had retired some years prior to the car's debut.

From the sumptuous lines of the Turtle Drilling Special to the ample waist of a north-western classic...

This isn't a paragon of sharpness, but it provides a fair idea of the Roy Yates Zodiac's proportions (I have just uncovered a fresh pack of old photos and found this lurking within). The Zodiac was predominantly in its two-tone blue/white stripey phase at this juncture, but it looks as though the bonnet section is finished in primer. Either that or it remains its previously bright pink self...

Andrew. A brief history.

This is my first PRS that I got from Chris Reynalds. I knew him well so I also knew the cars history. It had it's roll hoop replaced after a disagreement with Philippe Lambert at Silverstone which put Chris in hospital. It also had the front third of the chassis replaced after Chris T boned Jon Bekuis at the bottom of Paddock Hill. I physically couldn't get in the car, as Chris was less than 5ft tall, and had to have special pedal extensions made!

This was the car with my arms painted on the side.

I met Andrew Whitehouse at Donington in 1982 and a year later married his sister! Initially we ran his car and mine side by side but it seemed logistically and financially better to just have one car between us so I sold my car to Arthur Atkinson and gave put the money into running Andrew's PRS. We did a complete rebuild which included an extra RP26 style roll hoop after witnessing Simon Frosdick flip his PRS at Mallory where he broke his neck when the roll hoop collapsed.

Our meagre sponsorship changed in about 1985 so the car then looked like this

The bodywork was getting a bit battered so I tried to be a bit arty with the Airbrush in about 1987. It didn't really work and I'm surprised Andrew even drove it!

Finally in about 1989 we decided to change it again. We rebuilt the car over the winter but didn't have time to get the bodywork resprayed. I drove it in the first race with it rubbed down which was fortunate as...........

The car was then returned to an earlier incarnation. Which is how it still is today.

History lesson over :)

Hopefully got it right this time and this is the car you sold to Arthur Atkinson?

While on the subject of PRS's two other supporters of the marque:

Peter Childe smoking his way through Lodge

Ian Slater being followed rather closely by Roger Eccleston

While this start shot shows how competitive the car could be, Wally Warwick leading Ian Slater while the cars behind attempt to look like the M6 on a Friday evening

Yes. That's Art in my old car.

Peter Child - Good guy, with very little money. Ocassionaly he would use my spares to keep his going for the race and give them back afterwards - although more than once I was the cause of his damage in the first place.

You must have been standing next to Brendan!

I'm tired from these Formula Ford pictures. Can you post some F1 pictures here, especially from 1980s as this was the most interesting F1 decade? Formula Ford to Formula 1 is like compare Mini Cooper with Jaguar, so send F1 pictures, please!

If we are not careful we could end up with hundreds of "Personal Photos of ##### on the Track" threads. Rather than encourage multiple threads by year would it not be best to have threads for .......

F1, F2, F3, F5000, F3000, FAtlantic, FF1600, FF2000, Sports 2000, Sports Racers, GTs, Saloons and Club Racers.

This amounts to 13 threads and is probably far too many! :

Interesting letterage down the side of the legend Simon, is it "Blue Jeans International Motor Racing" or similar. Where, internationally, did Roy take his beast?

I think this must really re-define "subjective viewpoint" . No offence meant, Andrea.
Cars, drivers and eras are all a matter of personal preference, and TNF is a broad church. We are fortunate that so many enthusiasts not only still hold their photographs, and in the case of historians their data/bases and factual accounts and libraries, but that they are also prepared to post such items in a public arena like this.
Ignore the stuff which does not please you, and rejoice in that which does. Many of us are especially delighted with the photo threads of 50s and 60s material from the US and Australia/NZ, plus the Pygmee posts, etc etc etc. They are a wonderful source of new knowledge, unless you are content to restrict yours to a very narrow era. Enjoy it all.

It does say Blue Jeans International Motor Racing, but I've no idea whether the Zodiac ever raced abroad (or, indeed, made it as far as Llandow).

It would have been interesting to see how many turns of lock it needed to cope with the Knockhill hairpin.

I don't recall seeing the car at Longridge, but then there were only 10 slots on the grid in the circuit's early days (later extended to 12) and the Zodiac would have occupied about six of them...

That's John Scratch in the Canadian built Ferret Mk.IV. Alec Purdy, Fred Wilken, and driver Scratch were a potent force on the Ontario Formula Ford scene in the seventies and early eighties, scoring lots of wins and championships in what was, essentially, a home built car. They had plenty of competition, always racing against the latest offerings from the British chassis manufacturers, and there was never any shortage of really talented drivers.

Read more here: www.ferretindustries.ca/index.htm

Here's another photo, seen alongside Mike Mueller's Zink, again at Mosport, circa 1981:

July 12 1980. A group of four 19-year-olds leaves Cheshire at about 2.30am in LNA 143V - a terracotta Ford Fiesta 1.0L. Breakfast is taken at Scratchwood Services and we wend our way through central London, crossing Vauxhall Bridge before spearing slightly to the east and passing through what I now know to be New Cross and Lewisham. Next stop: Brands Hatch...

Alan Jones heads for the third of his five victories during the season.

Nelson Piquet: remember the days when F1 cars had visible race numbers and most drivers wore readily identifiable helmets?

The Osella FA1 wasn't the most elegant racing car, but it should be remembered for almost wiping out the svelte form of the Harrier jump jet parked on the Clearways infield.

We went to Brands in a 1.0 Fiesta. Datapost took a 1.6 for Richard Longman and a 1.3 (pictured) for Alan Curnow.

This is a fairly crap picture, but it has a certain curiosity value. It's not Win Percy (or, indeed, Hugo Tippett, who drove the third Pentax RX-7). Anybody care to identify the driver?

Yes Jack did do that race in that Renault, didn't the organisers try to attract some drivers from Stirling's era to boost spectator appeal? I also remember seeing Colin Hawker in a 1.3 Fiesta in this race - a bit of a come down from his Super saloon DFVW a few years earlier!
