The launch isn't just yet but Mercedes just tweeted a sneak peak via their website.

Those lines look a little neon, I thought neon was McLaren's thing?

Are they glow in the dark?

They really need to reveal that one secret: How are they doing a quick car AND a decent nose?

Fourth year in a row too.

You beat me to it RedBaron. :D

We were both slow, they tweeted it over 30 mins ago!

I had to double check the forum before I posted, I was positive Marklar would have got there first  :p

Edit: RECKLESS beat us both, he posted them in another topic at 8.15. These photos definitely warrant the Mercedes W08 having it's own thread now though.

So Williams, Renault and Mercedes all appear to have an aggressive cut out to the top middle to rear parts of their side pods.

Yep.  It doesn't appear to have a shark fin, but I'll reserve full judgement for tomorrow.  I hope they retain their 2016 fin style, rather than the Williams option or even worst, the full 'glory' that is the Sauber and Renault shark fin designs.

The early W06 had the best nose of the last 8 years.

I definitely think those lines are the livery and not lighting.

They don't cut through sponsor branding like lighting would and the images were tweeted along a message referring to the colours

A flash of silver…
A splash of @Petronas green…
A dash of… blue?

It’s coming… #cantW08

Similar to (but from these sneak peaks much cooler) Jaguar's Formula E livery.

Yeh there hasn't been blue on the cars before, except when they run wets!

I wonder if the blue is a nod to hybrid? That seems to be an electric/hybrid colour car companies use.

Why Merc can have that nose...

Using wing pylon aggressively as aero components like making it as wide as possible, as tall as possible (connect to upper part of nose), which is how thumb nose is formed, also as long as possible to extend backward is easier and cheaper way for getting the aero benefit, but comes with drag / air resistance handicap.
Why Merc can do it with simpler nose and minimum wing pylon is because their aero is so advanced, they are getting same or more aero benefit with less drag. Their front end aero (from nose, under nose to splitter) is much superior.

Is that where they have spent there Research and Development time? Hard to achieve but once they are there it is worth it?

Let's remember Lewis told it looks like a boat and not get too exited just yet...  :p

Those blue and green lines are due to lights been shone on the car, I do not believe they are the actual colour.

By having a monster of an engine that can overcome the aero-deficit of the nice nose.

I doubt that. No team would do that. Regardless how big their advantage is.

Re Shark fins: Mercedes was the team nost likely to have one. It would be funny if they dont...

Merc have their dignity and decency. Would have actually been surprising to see a penis nose now after 3 years of refining the design. Well done to them.

Even after the launch tomorrow I won't be counting my chickens just yet.  If thee car doesn't have a shark fin tomorrow, the team could still introduce one in time for the Australian GP.

Wouldn't the lights be reflecting over the sponsor logos instead for seemingly going under them?

Check the photos again, if they are lights then why don't they shine onto suspension or shine over sponsor logos?

I believe it is there to provide yaw stability while the car is cornering.

ZOOMG, no cock nose! If this car can be sans-sharkfin Merc would have smashed the design out of the park for 4 years in a row. I have a feeling their aerodynamicist is also an aesthete and has a smidgen of self respect!

In honour of the designer, I christen this car, great grandson-of-Kraken, HYDRA!

With the lower rear wings more turbolences are expected. This can be either prevented by a shark fin or a lot rake, which is why Mercedes was expected to have one while teams like Red Bull not.

Will wait till master OB1Newey and the young apprentice Prodromou reveal their RB13 & MCL32 before saying the W08 is the best looking car.

But so far so good even if its just a teaser

Not if the sponsor logos were just matte stickers for better visibility. I don't think they were in the past, though.
